It is a time for publications with Professor Boyd Swinburn (Alfred Deakin Professor and Director World Health Organisation Collaborating Centre for Obesity Prevention) releasing the book, 'Preventing Childhood Obesity: Evidence Policy and Practice' & the 2009 CO-OPS Case Study book is also due out in May.
A short reminder to let you know you only have until May 31 to send in your completed CO-OPS survey of Australian community-based healthy lifestyle projects.
Have a good look around the newsletter and its resource links which include the always valuable case studies members like you contribute and the inspirational Jamie Oliver talk.

The CO-OPS Collaboration 2009 Book of Case Studies for Community Based Obesity Prevention contains 32 case studies from across Australia. The book comes from participants at the 2009 CO-OPS Collaboration National Workshop. Hard copies will be available by emailing admin@co-ops.net.au and online in the resource library from mid-May.

Boyd A. Swinburn Director of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Obesity Prevention at Deakin University together with CO-OPS Steering Committee member Elizabeth Waters of University of Melbourne and Jacob C. Seidell of VU University, Amsterdam and Ricardo Uauy of University of Chile have a new book available: 'Preventing Childhood Obesity: Evidence Policy and Practice'.
This book is an essential read for all public health practitioners, early childhood professionals, health care providers and clinicians working to reduce the prevalence of childhood obesity in their communities.
This book brings together contributors from around the world and showcases the latest evidence-based research on community and policy interventions to prevent unhealthy weight gain and improve the health and well-being of children. The authors highlight from the evidence available what is and what is not effective and provide recommendations on how to implement and evaluate promising interventions for obesity prevention.

Fix My Ride
is a bicycle repair programme that aims to provide physically active recreational opportunities, and enhance community involvement among youths and adults. The programme was developed in the remote town to Mt Magnet, located 380km East of Geraldton in Western Australia’s Midwest region. Based on the successful ‘Deadly Treadlies’ programme that operated in Alice Springs from 2003-2005, participants were trained in how to strip back and rebuild bikes from recycled bicycles. more
Lifestyle Triple P (LTP) is a parent-focused, group program that addresses lifestyle behaviour issues within families of overweight or obese children aged five to ten years old. The 17-week program was developed by Queensland University, and is now licensed by Triple P International®. Funding was provided by the Child and Adolescent Community Health Service (CACH) (Department of Health, Western Australia) to pilot Lifestyle Triple P in Western Australian community health settings. more
